Hi Friends!

First of all, I hope all of you had a merry christmas/holiday spent with your family and friends! I know it’s been awhile since I’ve last posted anything new…my finals exams and holiday break PLUS working has all added up ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Regardless, I shall return for more updates and posts once I have a better schedule flowing! As for now, here’s a fairly late post on how to taco: soft vs. hard.

How do you like your tacos? Comment down below!

  1. In a large frying pan, on medium heat, cook ground beef and onions until the beef has no pink colour and the onions are soft. Drain fat.
  2. Add water, chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, oregano, salt and our. Bring to a boil.
  3. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes, stirring until thickened.
  4. Spoon beef mixture onto our tortillas.
  5. Top with grated cheese, chopped tomatoes, lettuce, salsa and sour cream. Roll up tortilla.

    Tip:

Using seasonings like cumin, oregano, garlic powder and chili powder in this recipe instead of using taco seasoning mixes will make your tacos lower in salt.

Choosing reduced fat cheese products allows you to cut fat and calories and keep all of the protein and calcium.

For Hard Tacos (My family’s version)

Ingredients:

  • Taco seasoning of choice (pre-packaged) or
    • Cumin
    • Oregano
    • Garlic powder
    • Chili powder
    • Salt and pepper to taste
    • And any other spices you would like to add!
  • Ground beef
  • Small onion
  • Taco shells (We usually use the Old El Paso Brand)
    • Other: Soft tortillas if opting for soft tacos
  • Shredded lettuce
  • Shredded cheese
  • Diced tomatoes
  • Cilantro (Optional)
  • Mild salsa (Or sauce of choice)
  • Sour Cream (Optional)

Steps:

  1. Dice the small onion and put aside all the needed spices for the taco seasoning, and side aside.
  2. Shred the lettuce/cheese, dice tomatoes and other toppings you would like to add to your tacos, and set aside. I usually put them in the fridge as I cook the ground beef. I like to do this first so that I am not in a rush to gather all the spices/cut ingredients.ย
  3. If you have hard tacos, heat them up accordingly.
  4. On medium heat, cook ground beef accordingly until the pink colour of the beef disappears. Make sure to drain any fat/juices from the ground beef!
  5. Lower the temperature slightly as you add the onions and taco seasoning.
  6. Now you’re able to assemble your tacos!ย I like to orient the toppings and sauces in a taco buffet sort of style. You don’t need to do this,ย however it makes it easier for others to create their own tacos!
